The Price County Highway Department was forced to close the Douglas Creek Bridge on County Highway C in the Town of Prentice on May 24, 2017 due to concerns on the structural integrity of the concrete bridge deck. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation as well as the county’s contracted inspection firm determined that the bridge could not be reopened until a replacement deck could be constructed.
With the current age and overall condition of the existing bridge, it was determined that the county will move ahead with a permanent replacement utilizing the Wisconsin Department of Transportation bridge replacement program. This process can take upwards of four to five years to complete. In order to limit the disruption to vehicular traffic, it was decided that a repair will be completed as soon as possible to ensure the bridge can be reopened to regular vehicular traffic.
The department has ordered the necessary materials to replace the bridge deck and railing components. It is anticipated that the parts will arrive mid to late August. Once everything is onsite, the repairs will be performed and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will provide the recommended weight restriction that will remain in place until the permanent replacement bridge can be constructed.
All traffic will continue to be detoured on State Highway 86, State Highway 13, and County Highway A. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the department anytime.
