D.A.R.E. Curriculum

D.A.R.E. Officer Laurie Zondlo will be in the 5th grade classrooms every Thursday starting in December. Your child will be taking part in the D.A.R.E. program and will receive a D.A.R.E. t-shirt free of charge. The class voted for the design of their shirt.

The following is a brief description of the lessons which will be instructed in the classroom by Deputy Zondlo. As parents, you can help reinforce these lessons with your child by discussing at home what they have learned each week.

Introduction to D.A.R.E. - Rules, Decision Making Model

 

·        Lesson 2

Tobacco Effects - Identifying warning labels on tobacco products

 

·        Lesson 3

Marijuana Effects - Identifying smoking ads and public service announcements

 

·        Lesson 4

Alcohol Effects - True and False on Alcohol - VIDEO

 

·        Lesson 5

Inhalant Effects and brief discussion on effects of Methamphetamine

 

·        Lesson 6

Prescription drugs/over the counter drugs and identifying

 

·        Lesson 7

Peer Pressure - Learn types of pressure and how to recognize them

 

·        Lesson 8

Ways to Be in Charge - learn the ways to say no and have high self esteem

 

·        Lesson 9

Bullying - Identifying bullies, how to deal with them and keep our school safe

 

·        Lesson 10

Role Models - 4 Senior High School role models speak to the class

 

·        Lesson 11

Essays - Each student will read their D.A.R.E. essay to the class
