Ashland, Bayfield and Price Counties Now Offer Permanent Medication Drop Boxes for Unused, Unwanted or Expired Medications

You no longer have to wait for a Medication Collection to take place to properly dispose of your unused, unwanted or expired medications. A new collaboration between Ashland, Bayfield and Price Counties and the Northwest Regional Planning Commission will provide permanent drop off sites for unused, unwanted or expired medications. All county residents are encouraged to properly dispose of their medications. A permanent drop-off location is now available in each county. The public is able to bring their unused, unwanted or expired medications to the Bayfield County Sheriff's Department and the Park Falls Police Department Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and the Ashland Police Department and Price County Sheriff's Department 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Collection and disposal of medication will be funded in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Trade, Agriculture and Consumer Protection.

Through ongoing collection of unused, unwanted and expired pharmaceuticals, the potential for poisoning and medication abuse will be dramatically reduced in our communities. Law Enforcement partners believe this will cut down on medication thefts and will slow the rapidly growing problem of substance abuse in our communities. Waterways will also be protected because there is no longer an excuse for flushing unused, unwanted or expired medications down the drain.
