PRICE COUNTY LAND CONSERVATION COMMITTEE

Price County Normal Building - UWEX Conference Room

June 10, 2002

Chairperson Pritzl called the June 10, 2002 meeting of the Price County Land Conservation Committee to order at 9:03 a.m.  Present were:  Arthur Pritzl, Andrew Pohlod, Daniel Racette, Leona DeRemer, and Frank Jasurda (LCC), Robert Lobermeier, John Obadal and Lisa Braun (LCD); and Wray Miller (HR).

¨       Minutes – Motion by Racette/DeRemer to approve minutes from the May 13, 2002 meeting.  Motion carried.

¨       Vouchers/Finance Report – Motion by Racette/Pohlod to approve vouchers/finance report.  Motion carried.

¨       Correspondence/public comment – Thank you letter from Ameris Grapa (speaking contest winner).

¨       Pri-Ru-Ta report – No meeting had taken place in the past month, nothing to report.

¨       Staff/agency reports – Lobermeier (LCD) updated committee on department activities including:  WLWCA Conservation Camp; Upper Chippewa Basin Team (UCBT) and ATV Steering Committee meeting; the season’s first Naturalist Series presentation held on June 8th; LCC Supervisor training available on August 22 at Rhinelander; purchase of 30 videos on proper culvert installation; RC&D Annual Conference in Baraboo on October 17-18, 2002; letter of support to UCBT regarding River Management Grant; Friends of the Jump River notified that they will receive a Pri-Ru-Ta grant for tree planting in the amount of $1000; discussed staffing grant options for 2003; distributed the 2001 Wildlife Damage Annual Report.

Obadal (LCD Technician) updated committee on all Technician activities (report on file).

Koch (DNR) was not present.

Plawski (NRCS) was not present.

¨       Conservation plan approvals – none.

¨       LCD Clerical Position Fill – Personnel Committee decided not to move ahead with filling the position being vacated by Braun on 6/21/02 as per the LCC decision from the May 13, 2002 meeting.  Personnel cited reasons of possible lay offs coming in November depending on the State budget.  Personnel said that LCD could hire a temp or LTE at the summer student rate of $7.90/hr.  The $7.90/hr rate would not apply to a hire through a Temp Agency.

Motion by Pohlod/Racette to contact Nancy Brereton (Smart Growth clerical) to hire thru Temp Agency, if she is unavailable hire a qualified person thru the Temp Agency regardless.  Salary to be decided by LCD budget.  Motion carried.

Lobermeier was not satisfied with this solution, stating that it is not fixing the true problem.

¨       Adjourn – Motion by DeRemer/Jasurda to adjourn.  Motion carried.  Meeting was adjourned at 11:25 a.m.

Committee members remained after the meeting to view the proper culvert installation video and the PowerPoint presentation used in the Naturalist Series on June 8th.

The next meeting will be on July 8, 2002 at 9:00 a.m. in UWEX conference room C, Normal Building, Phillips.
