DIRECTOR’S REPORT JANUARY 2003 MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL SPORT SHOW: The Price County Promotion Committee, a group formed of members from the chambers of commerce with funding and assistance from the Price County Tourism Department is faltering. The group has been in existence for three years and has attended winter trade shows and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Sport Show (MJSS). We are failing due to a lack of individual business owners who are willing to volunteer their time to work the shows. We have secured a booth at the MJSS that will run March 14-23, 2003. The booth is approximately 50% staffed at this time. If we are unable to secure volunteer staff for the remaining 50 % of the show we will “sublet” the booth space to Birchland Realty and Whispering Pines/Skyline Motel. The cost of the booth was $800.00. I will propose to the Promotion Committee that we sublet the space for $400.00 with the agreement that they will distribute Price County Tourism Department and chamber materials. PRICE COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION: The Price County Economic Development Committee is in the process of updating their website. The updated site will be promoted on three billboards; one north of Park Falls, the second south of Phillips and the third on the west side of Price County on Hwy 8. This will assist us in promoting the county as a tourism destination as the website will have a link to our site. PRICE COUNTY TRAVEL COMPANION: Assured Marketing has supplied me with a status report on the Price County Travel companion. The project is coming along nicely and the brochure will be available for the upcoming sport shows. A local business owner has requested that we review the pricing policy for advertisements when the brochure is printed again to give a discount to individuals who place a second ad in the brochure.
