Family Caregiver Support Programs

Research shows that caregivers experience high levels of emotional, physical and financial stress which often leads to diminished health of the caregiver. Price County offers two local support programs for caregivers.

Alzheimer Family Caregiver Support Program (AFCSP)

Assists Wisconsin families in providing at home care for a loved one with irreversible dementia.

  • Enhances quality of life.
  • Provides assistance to caregivers.
  • Written diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or related dementia is required.
  • Priority is given to persons living in a private home setting.
  • Annual income $48,000 or less-Alzheimer's related expenses can be deducted.

National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP)

Assists families and other informal caregivers in caring for loved ones at home for as long as possible. The main focus of this program is to support caregivers.

There are five core areas:

  1. Information to caregivers about available services
  2. Assistance to caregivers in gaining access to the services
  3. Individual counseling, organization of support groups and caregiver training
  4. Respite care
  5. Supplemental services

Training & Information

Information and training for caregivers will improve the quality of care they can provide for their relative or friend. These topics include:

  • Bathing
  • Dressing
  • Feeding
  • Grooming
  • Moving around
  • Toileting
  • Transfers (from bed to wheelchair)
