National, State & County Forests

The Price County region is home to approximately 340,000 acres of public forest lands. The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Flambeau River State Forest and Price County Forest form a vast wilderness area that supports an excellent population of Northwoods wildlife.

The use of metal detectors is allowed on land owned and maintained by Price County. Contact the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources or the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, 715-762-2461, for information regarding using metal detectors on land under their jurisdiction. 

Flora & Fauna

Towering pine and hardwood forests are interspersed with hundreds of lakes and streams. This is the perfect habitat for black bear, deer, elk, turkey, bald eagles, ruffed grouse, coyote and timber wolves and other species of animals and birds. Hunting seasons vary by species. Wildlife watching in always in season.

National Forest Recreation Pass

Stop by the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest headquarters building located at 1170 South 4th Avenue in Park Falls for forest information. Purchase a daily or annual recreation pass which enables you to access national public lands during your visit. Recreation passes can also be purchased at local vendor businesses.
