Planned improvements for Old 8 West in the Town of Prentice, Price County, will be discussed at a Public Involvement meeting on April 13, 2026. The meeting will start at 5:30 PM at the Town of Prentice Town Hall, 400 Center Street, Prentice, WI 54556.
The Old 8 West project involves improvements to the roadway and replacement of the bridge at the crossing of Hay Creek approximately 2.8 miles west of the junction with WIS 13. The proposed improvement will include the removal of the existing bridge and placement of a new single-span concrete flat slab bridge. The 142.54-foot-long project will include replacement of the bridge on the existing alignment and approximately 100 feet of roadway approaches.
During construction of the project, the site will be closed to traffic. Construction is anticipated to take approximately 3 months during 2027. The earliest construction could begin is June 15 due to in-stream work restrictions. The exact timeframe will be determined by the contractor based on their availability.
A variety of exhibits and maps will be featured at the Public Involvement meeting, and representatives from the Town of Prentice and Ayres Associates will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. The public is encouraged to attend to examine the proposed improvement and discuss any concerns they might have.
Persons requiring an interpreter, materials in alternate formats, or other accommodations
to access this meeting virtually are encouraged to contact the Town of Prentice or Ayres Associates at the numbers below at least 72 hours prior to the meeting so arrangements can be made. Deaf or hard of hearing persons needing assistance may contact the Town of Prentice or Ayres Associates via the Wisconsin Telecommunications Relay System (711).
Individuals who are unable to attend on April 13, 2026, can contribute comments about the bridge project by contacting the following individuals:

Emergency load restrictions placed on WIS 70 in Sawyer, Price counties
Limits to be lifted following completion of resurfacing project from County GG to WIS 13
Emergency load restrictions have been put in place on WIS 70 between the intersections of County GG in the Sawyer County unincorporated community of Loretta and WIS 13 in the Price County town of Fifield.
These restrictions – in the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Northwest and North Central regions – limit vehicles using this stretch of highway to legal weights of 80,000 pounds, or 40 tons, and will be in place until the roadway is resurfaced this summer.
All operators carrying overweight permitted loads, except those with raw forest service, or RS, permits, are prohibited from using this section of roadway until the proper repairs can be performed. WisDOT asks for voluntary restriction compliance for carriers with RS permits to limit damage along this corridor. Carriers should make plans to locate and use appropriate detour routes during this restriction.
Be advised an advisory speed limit of 45 mph also has been put in place to prevent damage to vehicles and potential crashes.
Motorists are reminded that using handheld cell phones in Wisconsin work zones is illegal. Alerts and updates provided via these sites are not intended for use while driving. When driving, your focus should always be on driving.

PRICE COUNTY HIGHWAY SPRING WEIGHT LIMITATIONS
Will begin on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 4:00 pm
Pursuant to Section 349.16 Wisconsin State Statues, the Price County Highway Department will be imposing temporary weight restrictions on various County Trunk Highways effective, Thursday, March 5, 2026. Restrictions will begin at 4:00 pm. Signs will be placed at various intersections advising the public that weight restrictions are in effect on that specific highway.
If melting snow or rain causes thawing at an unexpected rate the restrictions may be imposed earlier, please watch for the signs.
These weight restrictions are for County Trunk Highways only. Any weight restrictions on State, City, Village, or Town roads are managed by each individual municipality. Special concessions may be made on a case-by-case basis through the issuance of a single or multiple trip permit.
These restrictions will remain in place until the highways have regained their strength and the frost has dissipated.
Please note the section of CTH A from USH 8 to Park Street, in the Village of Prentice, has been added to the restricted highways again this year. Overweight vehicles can access the Village of Prentice via CTH X to CTH A.
